Celebrating 10 Years!

This week represents a big milestone at Make Communities: ten years of equity focused consulting and support!

As with any new project or organization, it’s been a wild ride; but we’ve had great clients and collaborators all the way through.

Creating equitable, opportunity rich environments for everyone takes everyone. I feel very grateful to have been allowed on this journey with each and every one of you that are working to create equitable, adaptive, and successful places and organizations.

If you’ve been paying close attention, you may have noticed a new look for Make Communities, reflected in our logo and website. These updates draw on our ever-deepening understanding of the overlapping and intersecting experiences, perspectives, and skill sets necessary to build intentional, resilient, and welcoming communities.

There are lots of other great things planned for the coming year and, hopefully, the decade to follow.

In addition to continuing our longstanding and always evolving partnerships, stay tuned for the rollout of a whole-organization approach to implementing racial equity that Make Communities has co-developed with Stamey Street Consulting Group. Dr. Joanna Shoffner Scott has been a long time partner in the work, and I’m so happy to be a part of this collaboration that brings together our many shared years of experience.

Understanding that equity centered practices also require understanding our own position within the work, look out for the launch of a new podcast for white folks trying to make sense of their own racial identity. Some amazing and insightful guests have agreed to come on and talk frankly about their own

experiences, and I couldn’t be more excited to share their stories with you.

So, for the first ten years at Make Communities, thanks to all of you!  You are my community of committed change agents: the practitioners, dreamers, and doers without whom my piece of the work wouldn’t be possible.

It’s been more than I ever could have hoped for. Now, let’s do it again…
